Inner Wheel District 322 Sri Lanka, was instrumental in realizing the aspirations of students from Galapitagala Maha Vidyalaya in Ganewalpola in the Dambulla District, by gifting them an IT room to enable them to further their education.  This project was carried out with the proceeds of the 2nd Inner Wheel South Asia Rally held in Habarana. The Rally Committee worked with the school staff to make this project a success and it was held on World Inner Wheel Day, in 2012.

Converting a disused room into a beautifully refurbished computer room was provided with three computers and a printer and the required furniture to start off the project.  Galapitagala Maha Vidyalaya, a school in a remote village off Habarana, needed many basic necessities and they were fulfilled by providing the school with a drinking water fountain and electrical wiring for the school.

Only a handful of students mostly children of poor farmers had proper shoes and all 183 students of the school were given socks and shoes.  After seeing the poor condition of the school Principal’s Office, a pedestal fan and an office chair was donated and the school hall was given a lectern.  The cost of the project was Rs. 505,000.00.

As the school Principal was keen to have security for the school Rs. 118,00.00 collected from donors was used to put up a new gate and fencing for the school.
